SA RESOURCE RECOVERY FACILITY ANALYSIS PRESENTATION

Dear Members,

From Saturday 1 September 2012, most wastes produced in Metropolitan Adelaide must not be disposed of to landfill unless they have first been subject to a resource recovery process.  Also, a range of materials are progressively being banned from disposal to landfill.

Rawtec Pty Ltd and Mike Haywood - Sustainable Resource Solutions, have undertaken an analysis of resource recovery activities servicing Metropolitan Adelaide for the EPA and Zero Waste SA. The preparation of the report was assisted by information contributed by industry.

The analysis report is to be used to inform the development of guidance materials on what constitutes appropriate resource recovery and the EPA's expectations for compliance with landfill bans by resource recovery facilities.

We wish to give you the opportunity to attend an open presentation to industry regarding:

the contents of the report and its findings
the implications of the report for the development of guidance materials, and
the next steps involved in the development of guidance materials

The presentation is to be held at 10.30am - 12.00pm on Friday 3 February 2012 at EPA, Level 9, 250 Victoria Square, Adelaide 5000. Please RSVP to Tiana Nairn by email tiana.nairn@epa.sa.gov.au or phone 08 8204 9926. A limited number of spaces are available.

Tiana Nairn is also happy to speak with WMAA members regarding the upcoming process at any time.

In other news from the EPA:

The EPA is in the process of reviewing authorisation application fees, to ensure they are equitable and based on the principles of of user pays and cost recovery to align with the way in which annual licence fees are set. The new fees are set to be implemented from January 2013 and EPA will continue to consult with authorisation holders, through WMAA as the review process progresses.
