The VIC Resource & Energy Recovery Working Group has been established under the auspices of the Waste Management Association of Australia’s national Resource & Energy Recovery Division. The purpose and vision of the national RER Division has been stated as follows: |

To establish and maintain a viable RER industry that operates within the framework of ecologically sustainable development. |

| For a sustainable Australia with our systems, facilities and infrastructure working to avoid and minimise waste, recover valuable resources and energy and close the loop on urban resource consumption. |
| The major focus for the Division since its inception has been the development of a Sustainability Guide for Energy from Waste projects in addition to a complementary Industry Code of Practice for Energy from Waste proponents and practitioners. Together they provide the RER industry with a widely accepted protocol, process and strategic framework for assessing RER projects and proposals. The intent of the Victorian RER Working Group is to establish a local network that can contribute to the development of a sustainable energy from waste sector in Victoria. The group recognises the contribution of greenhouse emissions from the waste sector to global warming, and believes that RER has a role to play in reducing the effects of climate change.
