Electronic Goods Recycling – The Extended Producer Responsibility
Presented by Sam Millar, PGM Refiners
The federal Government has confirmed its commitment to implement product stewardship and extended producer responsibility legislation by 2011 in an effort to significantly increase E-Waste recycling rates in Australia. The computer and TV industry are ready, willing and able to make appropriate funding contributions, subject to satisfactory regulatory and compliance frameworks being in place. Since Australia is now one of the few developed countries with no comprehensive national e-waste recycling laws, woefully low recycling rates for TVs and computers and a rapidly growing national E-waste problem, there is a pressing need for action, which will also bring about opportunities for innovation and business.
Sam Miller, Chairman of PGM Refiners Pty Ltd - Sam is a chartered accountant by qualification, with over 30 years of professional, business and commercial experience, including five years with lawyers Blake Dawson Waldron as an in-house consultant. Sam was co-founder of a number of early stage businesses in industries including biotechnology, electronic tracking management systems and precious metals, with responsibilities for developing business plans, capital raising, project management and strategy both in Australia and Europe. Sam is Chairman of PGM Refiners Pty Ltd, an innovative E-waste recycler specialising in end-of-life environmentally responsible recycling.
