Conference Scholarship Program

The Conference Scholarship Program was established to enable two young professionals from across Australia to attend a local, national or international conference that is of relevance to their professional development within the waste management industry, that they otherwise would not have had the opportunity to attend.

The scholarship offers the opportunity for the successful applicant to receive either partial or full funding for registration to the conference as well as travel and accommodation.

Applications are sought between May until June each year.

Previous winners:

2009 -   Elissa Bishop and Megan Savill (both attended Waste and Recycle 2009 Conference, Freemantle, WA)

2008 -   Mark Christopher (attended the Combustion Incineration / Pyrolysis and Emission Control Conference, Thailand) and Heidi Robertson (attended the Climate for Change Conference, SA).

2007 – Eve Graham and Erin Henson (both attended the WasteMINZ Conference, New Zealand)

Carbon Tracking Project

The Young Professionals Working Group, under the Carbon Tracking Project, is measuring, reducing and offsetting the greenhouse gas emissions associated with activities and events run by the Working Group.

It is limited to YP group sponsored or co-sponsored activities and events, including

  • Transport of participants to and from YP organised events;
  • Transport of YP Committee members on business directly relating to YP activities;
  • Food and beverage purchased and consumed at YP organised events;
  • Energy consumed at venues for YP organised events (where quantifiable) through computer usage and use of venues for YP Committee meetings; and
  • Disposal of waste generated at YP organised events.

From 1 June to 30 November 2009, the YP group offset 954 kg CO2-eq.
