NSW C&D Guidlines
The recycling of C&D materials into value added products is a desired outcome for the New South Wales community as it conserves diminishing natural resources, recovers and reuses valuable materials and diverts large volumes from landfill.
In past years, ACM contamination has been used in many residential and commercial buildings, and will be an issue that must be dealt with well into the future. This has caused significant problems to the Recycling and Building Industries.
The procedures as set out in The Guidelines have been produced by the C&D Recycling Industry in NSW so as to minimise the risk of potential Contamination (such as asbestos) in recycled C&D materials which should introduce a higher standard of quality for materials, and thereby meet the Construction Industry and Community expectations.
In addition, The Guidelines aim at providing industry best practice in the recycling of construction and demolition materials and sets out this information in order to:
- Allocate responsibilities for the identification, avoidance and removal of asbestos; and
- Detail the minimum standards and guidance for the receival and handling of construction and demolition material including operational procedures, training and quality control; and
- Avoid the costly removal of recycled material in situ.
