Materials Safety Data Sheet Templates

As a service to members Compost Australia commissioned CORE to prepare template Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for use when selling Recycled Organics Products. These MSDS are now available for download in the members’ only section of the WMAA website under each State. Because regulations relating to MSDS differ in each state of Australia you will need to use the MSDS relating to the state where you intend to sell the product.

Proposed changes to the Australian Standard for Composts, Soil Conditioners and Mulches (AS4454) include a requirement to make materials safety data sheets available to customers if requested. It is proposed that provision of MSDS replace the current, arguably unnecessarily alarming, hazard warnings specified under the Standard.

In order to keep these templates relevant to the entire membership your feedback on the currency and practicality of these MSDS templates would be greatly appreciated.

Compost Supply Chain Roadmap

The aim of the roadmap is to develop a viable and sustainable organics recycling industry across Australia. This will involve new product and market identification and development of strategic plans that target both niche and wide-ranging markets for recycled organics.

The focus will be on the identification of product specifications that will allow the marketing and use of fit for purpose recycled organic products in agriculture, horticulture, landscaping and other value adding purposes.

This roadmap project is an initiative of the Waste Management Association of Australia (WMAA), Compost Australia and the Barton Group. It is funded in part by the Federal Government through AusIndustry, and various State Government Agencies including the Department of Environment and Conservation (NSW), Queensland Environmental Protection Agency, EcoRecycle Victoria, Zero Waste SA, ACT NoWaste and the WA Waste Management Board.

Making a Mark with Recycled Organics: Canberra Forum 2007

On the 26th and 27th of July Compost Australia ran the Canberra Forum. The purpose of the Forum is to agree on the direction and content of a national Recycled Organics market development plan and the means to fund its implementation through a national industry peak body (Compost Australia). Day one of the Forum provided a summary of industry development and available market market studies (state by state). It also included the Compost Australia 2007 Annual General Meeting. Day two was devoted to a market development workshop facilitated by Peter Shmigel. A summary of the workshop can be downloaded by clicking here. Presentations from Day 1 and workshop reports from Day 2 are available for download below.
