Compost Australia has called upon all businesses involved in organics recycling to join the association and make a financial and time commitment to the growth of the recycled organics industry. Where the majority of businesses make funding contributions in line with their size, the resulting pool of money will be used to leverage government funding and a significant industry development program can be implemented.
To guide the Program Compost Australia has developed a set of three year national Action Plans covering communications, market development and R&D. The actions described in these plans are directly linked to membership benefits delivered under the Program.
Contributions can be made to the Advancing the Recycled Organics Industry Program by purchasing a Compost Australia business membership based on the quantity of material (input tonnes) processed per annum by your business. In addition to individual membership of Compost Australia, five levels of business membership are now avaialable: small business; standard business; bronze; silver; and gold as the highest level. The higher level business memberships have considerably more direct benefits than the individual and standard membership categories. To view Compost Australia business membership benefits click here.
In order to deliver the benefits a minimum number of businesses must become members in each state and agree to contribute at bronze, silver, or gold levels. There are approximately 70 businesses in Australia recycling more than 15,000 tonnes per annum of organic material. The program must attract business members processing greater than 75% organic materials in that jurisdiction to proceed. To apply for Compost Australia Business Membership online click here.
With the continued support of businesses in the RO Industry and government the Program commencement date has been set at 1 January 2009 for New South Wales and Western Australia only. Negotiations with processors and governments in other states will continue with the aim of establishing a national program by the end of 2009.
