A state of the art facility, TPI’s Wingfield Transfer Station is part of an eco-precinct that handles approximately 1 million tonnes per annum and achieves roughly an 80% diversion rate of residual waste going to landfill. Designed to handle this residual waste stream, TPI’s award winning facility incorporates best practice environmental management measures across the board. Many of the issues often associated with transfer stations, such as odour, litter and leachate control, have been solved by innovative design. The site is also highly efficient, improving safety and commercial outcomes for clients. The main waste retrieval area has a tipping capacity of 150 commercial vehicles per hour. This, coupled with innovative ‘traffic loop’ design, means that queuing is extremely rare. These enhancements enable the vast majority of commercial clients to save time and money. Furthermore, as the general public and commercial vehicles are separated while on site, very few safety issues arise. Prominent signage and safety notices provide clear and easy to follow instructions to all users.
Incorporating energy and water conservation in its practices, Wodonga Council’s Transfer Station and Resource Recovery Centre receives approximately 7,500 tonnes of MSW and other products per year with a significant proportion diverted to recovery.
The following transfer stations nominated for the Award:
- IWS Resource Recovery and Transfer Station
