The National Landfill Division of the Waste Management Association of Australia (WMAA) with support from URS, established the Excellence Awards to showcase the best that landfills have to offer for others in the industry and for the general public. The submissions came from all over Australia and had to address multiple criteria.

Commendations must also go to all landfill sites that did not receive an award. They were all outstanding – regardless of whether they were large metropolitan landfills or smaller regional and rural facilities.

The following landfill sites were nominated for the awards:

  • Leeton Landfill & Recycling Depot (Leeton Shire Council)
  • IWS Northern Balefill (Integrated Waste Services)
  • Drysdale Landfill (City of Greater Geelong)
  • Whylandra Waste Depot, Dubbo (Dubbo City Council)
