Excellence Award to Sam Bateman, Hanson Landfill Services

Hanson has strived to make the large Wollert site an industry leader. Bronze winner in 2007, the introduction of composite lining, full construction audits, comprehensive testing and trials of materials used in construction well exceeding EPA requirements ensured the landfill was a winner in 2009.

The Brisbane Waste Innovations Alliance (BWIA), a private and public sector alliance between Brisbane City Council and Thiess Services ensures their regular Challenge Team meetings translate to efficiencies and innovations in site management.

The extended design and approval process of Bundaberg City Council’s Regional Landfill has resulted in a technologically advanced and environmentally conscious site, exceeding EPA standards. The judges sought to but could not separate the quality of the latter two sites and so elected to award the Silver placing jointly.

The following landfill sites nominated for the Award:

  • Summerhill Waste Management Centre (Newcastle City Council)
  • Moree Waste Management Facility (Constructive Solutions Pty Ltd)
  • Ti Tree BioEnergy (Ti Tree Bioenergy Pty Ltd)

  • Taylors Road Landill (SITA Environmental Solutions)
  • Wollert Landfill  (Hanson Landfill Services)
  • IWS Northern Balefill (Integrated Waste Services)
